A Delicious Classic

Picture this: it’s a hot summer day, you’ve just finished a workout, and you are thirsty for something cold and delicious. You open the fridge and reach for a beer and then you remember: you’re taking a pause on booze. So what do you do?

In 2020, my solution was to order some non-alcoholic beer from Athletic Brewing Company. Living relatively close to their Milford, CT brewery, the beer arrived by FedEx miraculously quickly. I remember the first variety I chose to try: Upside Dawn. Why? Well, at just 45 calories per can, it was a great fit for me as I focused on watching what I was eating and getting into shape. That, and it a really cool can design.

So what can you expect when you crack into an Upside Dawn? According to their website: “Refreshing, clean, balanced, and light-bodied. Subtle earthy and spicy notes are balanced with citrusy aromas.”

I found the beer to be nicely carbonated. Bubbly yet crushable, this beer was a perfect after-workout drink. All of the aforementioned tasting notes make sense to me. My palate also detected hints of lychee fruit.
